Tarla Dalal was born and brought from Pune, Maharashtra, and married to Nalin Dalal in 1960. She transformed her traditional Indian cooking into her profession.

She started taking cooking classes for her neighbors, and slowly her recipes got famous, she started teaching Indian vegetarian recipes, and Mexican and Italian dishes.

Her book by the name of “The Pleasure vegetarian cooking” which was written in the year 1974 was launched or published; the book became famous and was published in the market with 1.5 million copies.

After the success of her first book in the Hindi language, the book was translated into several other languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, and even foreign languages like Russian and Dutch. This motivated her and she almost wrote more than 170 books on different recipes, cultures, and habits.

Her books were specialized in the categories like cooking in less oil, breakfast recipes, food for pregnant women, children, etc.

After becoming a cookery show host

Her success gave her a chance to host a cookery show which was named “Cook it up with Tarla Dalal” on Sony Entertainment. The show continued for 3 years which bagged fans from not only India but also from Gulf, South East Asia, the UK, and the US.

The cookery queen, Tarla Dalal has created more than 17000 recipes.

Tarla’s books got printed inside the hearts of every Indian woman and the sales of her book rose to more than 3 million copies. The woman who was always confined to the kitchen had made history with her version of talent.

The Indian Merchants Chamber 2005 has honored Tarla Dalal and awarded her with “Women of the Year”.

In the year 2007, Tarla Dalal was awarded Padma Shri by the honorable President APJ Abdul Kalam in Rashtrapati Bhavan and became the first woman to be recognized in this category.

Tarla Dalal died in 2013 at the age of 77 leaving her legacy behind. All of her three children are taking care of her websites, cookery books publications, and her social media handles.
