Success Story of Sridhar Vembu – the Founder of Zoho Corporation

Sridhar Vembu belongs to a middle-class family. Sridhar started his education in a government-aided Tamil-medium school and then migrated to IIT-Madras for his under-graduation. After that, Vembu pursued his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1989.

Sridhar Vembu is an Indian entrepreneur, founder & CEO of Zoho Corporation, renowned software, and CRM company. ZOHO was founded in 1996 and focuses on office suites and web-based business tools.

After completing his Ph.D., he transferred to Qualcomm, an American multinational semiconductor and telecommunications equipment company in San Diego in 1994. Being an Electrical Engineer, he began to work on wireless communication including characteristics like wireless communications, CDMA, and power control. Sridhar Vembu had built his interest in Economics and Political Science.

Sridhar started Vembu Software from a small apartment located on the outskirts of Chennai in 1996 with Tony Thomas, who had a working experience in network management software. From the year 1996 to 2003, Vembu Software was popularly known as AdventNet.inc.

ZOHO CRM was launched in 2005. After introducing the project named Sheet, and creator, invoicing and mail application features, the ZOHO CRM attained 1 million users by august 2008. The company got its name ZOHO corporation in 2009. Sridhar Vembu and his family owe 88% of the ZOHO share. Currently, ZOHO has more than 50 million users all over the world. The software company has built a campus in the area of 375-acre in Austin, Texas. ZOHO Corporation has also founded ZOHO University.
